Mullen Industries Targets AR and VR Technologies in Second Campaign

Inventor-controlled plaintiff Mullen Industries LLC has launched a second litigation campaign, suing Meta Platforms (f/k/a Facebook) (1:24-cv-00354) in the Western District of Texas. The 11 patents-in-suit are described by the plaintiff as “directed to technological advancements and safety improvements in regards to augmented reality (‘AR’) and virtual reality (‘VR’) systems”, with Meta Platforms accused of infringement through the provision of certain Oculus- and Quest-series headsets, as well as related software products (i.e., First Encounters, First Steps, First Hand, First Contact, and Horizon Worlds).

In February 2022, Mullen Industries LLC sued Apple in the Western District of Texas over the provision of devices (e.g., Apple Watches, iPhones, iPads, and iPods) or services (e.g., iCloud) that support the Apple Maps or Find My service, as well as Apple Watches that support features for answering phone calls. That case ended last October; now Mullen Industries has turned to Samsung (2:24-cv-00049) over a superset of the same patents, all generally related to interactions between two mobile devices. Samsung is targeted over the provision of smartphones, smartwatches, and tablets.

Inventor-Controlled Delaware Plaintiff Sues Apple in West Texas

Mullen Industries LLC has sued Apple (6:22-cv-00145) over the provision of devices (e.g., Apple Watches, iPhones, iPads, and iPods) or services (e.g., iCloud) that support the Apple Maps or Find My service, as well as Apple Watches that support features for answering phone calls. The new Western District of Texas complaint asserts eight patents, including all members of a seven-patent family, that generally relate to interactions between two mobile devices.
