Unified Messaging Solutions (UMS) [NPE] filed seven separate suits against Avalanche,Doostang, Symbios Solutions, Up and Doing, WeeWorld, Where Are You Now, and Xing AG, alleging that the defendants’ webmail services infringe five patents related to web-based messaging systems. UMS has filed over 20 prior suits since March 2011 against over 40 defendants including American Express, AT&T, Bank of New York Mellon, eBay, Facebook, Google, Morgan Stanley, RIM, Sprint Nextel, T-Mobile, Time Warner, Travelocity, Twitter, Vanguard, Verizon, Walgreen, and Yahoo. UMS, a subsidiary of Acacia Research, is the exclusive licensee of the patents-in-suit, which originated with J2 Global Communications/NetOffice Solutions and were assigned to Advanced Messaging Technologies in May 2010. 6/15, Southern District of Florida, Judge Patricia A.
