Marathon Patent Group subsidiary CRFD Research filed its first suits this week in against Akamai, AT&T,Cablevision, Comcast, CoxCommunications, DirecTV, DishNetwork, Level 3Communications, LimelightNetwork, and TimeWarnerCable. Defendants’ media streaming services are the accused products in each case but the filings can be divided into two groups, each one involving a different patent. Three of the cases, involving Akamai, Level 3, and Limelight, assert a patent related to rendering and formatting web page content on a mobile device (7,574,486). The remaining seven litigations assert a patent related to redirecting streaming media content from one device to another (7,191,233). CRFD acquired both patents from TeleCommunication Systems in September 2013.
