A fourth real-time remote collaboration patent issued to Rosebud LMS, Inc. earlier in 2017, and the NPE has now asserted it, together with an earlier-issuing family member, in a new case against Salesforce (1:17-cv-01712). The complaint targets Salesforce’s Quip Collaboration software, acquired with Quip in late 2016. Rosebud spent 2010 through 2015 litigating its patents against Adobe before filing and dismissing cases in quick succession against Microsoft, Oracle, and Dropbox last year.
Rosebud LMS, Inc. has kept its sole litigation campaign alive, filing suit against Dropbox (1:16-cv-00957) less than one week after the voluntary dismissal, with prejudice, of its July 2016 case against Oracle. The new complaint asserts the most recent (8,578,280) of a three-patent family (7,454,760; 8,046,699) that has been at issue in this campaign, which began in 2010 with the first of several cases against Adobe and has continued with one brief 2016 case each against Microsoft and Oracle. The ‘280 patent generally relates to real-time collaboration over a computer network, with collaborative project management tools at issue throughout the campaign, including now Dropbox Pro and Dropbox Business.
Sound View Innovations, LLC has added a case against Twitter (1:16-cv-00652) to those in which it has asserted patents from the large portfolio that it received from Alcatel-Lucent in 2013 and 2014. The new complaint accuses Twitter of infringing five of the patents (6,708,213) from that portfolio, including four (5,806,062; 6,240,391; 6,408,296; 6,502,133) that it recently asserted against LinkedIn, against which it also asserted an additional three (5,847,972; 5,918,009; 7,894,859). A February 2016 complaint asserts a set of seven, entirely different patents from the former Alcatel-Lucent portfolio against Facebook.
Roughly one month after the voluntary dismissal of its only active case, against Microsoft, Rosebud LMS, Inc. has filed suit against Oracle (1:16-cv-00656). The complaint asserts the most recently issued patent (8,578,280) in a family of three generally related to real-time collaboration over a computer network. The collaborative project management tools provided by Oracle Primavera Prime are accused of meeting the limitations of the ‘280 patent’s claims.
