Civix-DDI filed suit against LoopNet, alleging that LoopNet’s real estate searching systems offered through its websites infringe a patent related to a method for advertising information. Civix-DDI has filed nine prior suits since June 2003 against over 15 defendants including Motorola, Verizon, and Yahoo. Civix previously filed a complaint for patent infringement against LoopNet in January 2012 involving two different patents. That case was transferred in August 2012 from the Eastern District of Virginia to the Northern District of Illinois and remains active. In May 2011, Civix reportedly negotiated a $7.5 million licensing agreement with the National Association of Realtors. According to the complaint, Civix has granted hundreds of licenses resulting in more than $40 million in royalties. Civix has also reportedly achieved settlements with Expedia, Microsoft, and Yahoo. 10/29, Northern District of Illinois, assigned to Honorable Samuel Der-Yeghiayan, 1:2012cv08632.
