CDD Technologies, a new IPNav entity, filed 12 separate suits against Acer, ASUS, Dell, Fujitsu, HP, MSI, Samsung, Sony, Systemax, Toshiba, ViewSonic, and Vizio alleging that the defendants’ laptops, PCs, tablets, and monitors infringe a patent related to drag-and-drop functionality from a popup menu (6,002,402). These are the first patent infringement suits initiated by CDD Technologies. According to the Texas Secretary of State, Audrey Spangenberg (wife of Erich Spangenberg, IPNav’s founder) is the registered agent of CDD Technologies. The patent-in-suit was invented by John Schacher (former Director of Development at Symantec) in April 1997. According to the complaint, CDD Technologies is the owner of the patent, although the USPTO lists Symantec as the last patent assignee. 12/21, Eastern District of Texas, 6:2012cv00983; 6:2012cv00985; 6:2012cv00986; 6:2012cv00988; 6:2012cv00989; 6:2012cv00990; 6:2012cv00991; 6:2012cv00992; 6:2012cv00993; 6:2012cv00994; 6:2012cv00995; 6:2012cv00996.
