SFA Systems is an IPNavsubsidiary that has been litigating since 2007 but it began ramping up its litigation campaign earlier this year. A new round of filings names Certona Corp, Dell, Google, Groupon, Hotels.com, Netflix, The Walt Disney Company, and Yahoo as defendants and asserts two of SFA’s three previously asserted patents (6067525, 7941341). The patents-in-suit relate to computer-implemented or automated sales and have been asserted in a number of SFA’s previous cases, including suits against Amazon, Barnes & Noble, eBay, and Walmart. Product recommendation features facilitating sales on defendants’ websites are accused of infringement. The asserted patents were originally owned by Clear with Computers, a former sales automation software company later known as Firepond. IPNav acquired a portfolio of Firepond patents in 2004 that includes the patents asserted in these cases. The Firepond patents have also been asserted by IPNav entities Clear with Computers, EMS Technologies, Orion IP, Polaris IP, and Triton IP. 8/18, Eastern District of Texas, 6:14cv00702, 6:14cv00703, 6:14cv00704, 6:14cv00705, 6:14cv00706, 6:14cv00707, 6:14cv00708, 6:14cv00709
