Quintal Research Sues Nintendo

March 4, 2013

Quintal Research filed suit against Nintendo, alleging that the defendant’s gaming devices infringe a patent (7,425,944) related to finger and thumb controls on a “pocket-size unit”. RPX reviewed the patent-in-suit as part of an open market opportunity in July 2009 (Peterson – Acq). Quintal appears to be controlled by the inventor, patent lawyer and Quintal Research president, Richard Peterson. Quintal Research has previously asserted the patent-in-suit in litigation against Leapfrog Enterprises and Sony (with co-plaintiff Wordtech Systems). According to the complaint Quintal Research sent multiple letters to Nintendo offering license in 2009. 2/27, Northern District of California, 3:13cv00888.
