Infinite Data Sues 17 More Companies with Networking Patent from ETRI
Infinite Data filed 17 separate suits against Barnes & Noble, Boeing, BP, Chevron, Clorox, Credit Suisse, Federal Express, Ford Motor, General Motors, Home Depot, JPMorgan Chase, MasterCard, McDonald’s, Merrill Lynch, Paramount Pictures, Pratt & Whitney, and Shell alleging that the defendants’ network computer systems that operate in accordance to the InfiniBand specification, used to interconnect servers and storage systems, infringe a patent related to network-based message processing (5,790,530). Last year, Infinite Data filed eight prior suits against Amazon, AOL, eBay, LexisNexis, MySpace, Overstock.com, PayPal and Yahoo asserting the ‘530 patent. During the course of litigation, the NPE plaintiff voluntarily dismissed three of the defendants without prejudice, namely LexisNexis and MySpace in Dec. 2012, and Overstock.com in Feb. 2013. According to the complaints, the patent-in-suit was issued in 1998 to the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) in Korea and is exclusively licensed to the plaintiff. On the same day Infinite Data began its campaign, a presumably related entity, Safe Storage, filed suits against service and storage vendors over the use of data network products and alleging infringement of a patent that is also exclusively licensed from ETRI. 2/19, District of Delaware, 1:13cv00267, 1:13cv00266, 1:13cv00265, 1:13cv00264, 1:13cv00263, 1:13cv00262, 1:13cv00261, 1:13cv00260, 1:13cv00259, 1:13cv00258, 1:13cv00257, 1:13cv00256, 1:13cv00255, 1:13cv00254, 1:13cf00253, 1:13cv00252, 1:13cv00251.
