Elia Data of Texas Sues Apple

February 25, 2013

Elia Data of Texas filed suit against Apple alleging that Apple’s Remote Desktop software, OS X Server software, and iCloud products/systems infringe a patent related to providing secure transport and storage of data on a network (7,113,996). Elia Data has filed three prior suits, including one against IBM in June 2012, and two others against Microsoft and Citrix in April 2012. Targeted products have included Microsoft’s Skype exchange server, Citrix’s Zen, Cloud, and NetScaler products, and IBM’s Tivoli, Websphere, Lotus, and SPSS. The patent-in-suit was assigned to Elia Data by inventor Sandy Kronenberg in Jan. 2012. According to the complaint, Daniel Perez is the president of Elia Data. Perez has been involved in several past NPE litigation campaigns that have reportedly resulted in large settlements and verdicts. RPX reviewed the patent as an open market opportunity (Kronenberg-Acq) in September 2011. 2/21, Eastern District of Texas, 2:13cv00147.
