EMG Files Three Additional Suits with Mobile Navigation Patent

February 13, 2013

EMG Technology filed three separate suits against AutozoneGreen Mountain Coffee Roasters (with Keurig), and Puma alleging that the defendants’ websites that can be reformatted for use on mobile devices capable of browsing the Internet infringe a patent related to reformatting HTML content for display on a mobile device (7,441,196). Last week, EMG filed similar suits against Discover Bank and General Mills. Since 2008, EMG has filed 30 suits asserting the ‘196 patent and one other against more than 60 companies spanning various segments. The ‘196 patent received a reexamination certificate in 2011 that affirmed the validity of the claims as amended to add a limitation that a link be provided to navigate to a “sister site.” EMG is a patent assertion entity managed by inventors Elliot Gottfurcht, Grant Gottfurcht and Albert Michael Long, all of whom assigned the patent-in-suit to EMG in 2008. 2/12, Eastern District of Texas, 6:13cv00143; 6:13cv00144; 6:13cv00145.
