NovelPoint Security filed suit against HGST, a subsidiary of Western Digital, alleging that defendants’ encrypted flash memory storage and data products infringe a patent related to limiting access to computer memory and peripheral devices for security purposes (5,434,562). Just last week, NovelPoint Security filed 25 prior suits between February 1 and February 4, reviving its campaign against makers of data security products after a period of inactivity since May 2012. NovelPoint Security first asserted the patent-in-suit in March 2012 against 33 major computer and notebook manufacturers, including Apple, Fujitsu-Siemens, Panasonic, Oracle, Samsung, and Sony. The majority of those suits were dismissed pursuant to settlement agreements.
