Parallel Networks Shifts Focus to Gaming Companies with Patents Not Previously Asserted

Parallel Networks filed eleven separate suits against gaming companies Wizards of the CoastTurbineNexon AmericaRiot GamesPerfect World EntertainmentElectronic ArtsEn Masse EntertainmentOnNet USAFuncomKOG Games, and Outspark alleging that the defendants’ websites infringe two patents related to dynamic web applications that provide more efficient use of bandwidth (7,188,145 and 7,730,262).  This is the first time the patents-in-suit have been asserted. Parallel Networks last filed suit in June 2012 against a variety of online retailers and others, including Macy’s, Barnes & Noble, Amazon, and Nordstrom over a different patent (6,446,111). As of just three weeks ago, on January 16, the NPE plaintiff lost its appeal at the CAFC involving these defendants and the ’111 patent after a finding of non-infringement. The company, which has filed more than 20 prior suits against over 160 defendants since May 2005, is the owner of at least 22 U.S. assets generally related to scaling dynamic web applications. The patents-in-suit originated with epicRealm and were assigned to Parallel Networks in September 2007.
