NovelPoint Security Sues HP, Dell and 23 other Makers of Data Security Products
NovelPoint Security filed 25 separate suits against Iomega, Interactive Media, Aleratec, Apricorn, Buffalo Technology, Buslink Media, CMS Products, Corsair Memory, Data Locker, Dell, Hitachi, HP, Imation, Kingston Technology, LaCie, Lexar Media, Micron Technology, Rocstorage, Sandisk, Seagate Technology, Tanberg Data, Toshiba, Transcend Information, Verbatim Americas, and Western Digital alleging that the defendants’ flash memory storage and data products, found in most PC computers and laptops, infringe a patent related to limiting access to computer memory and peripheral devices for security purposes (5,434,562). NovelPoint Security first asserted the patents-in-suit in March 2012 against 33 major computer and notebook manufacturers, including Apple, Fujitsu-Siemens, Panasonic, Oracle, Samsung, and Sony. The majority of those suits were dismissed pursuant to settlement agreements. David Reardon, the named inventor, assigned the patents-in-suit to NovelPoint Security in February 2012.
