CreateAds Sues Online Creation Website with Template-based Design Patent

January 30, 2013

CreateAds, an Empire IP entity, filed suit against SnapPages, a company that provides tools for easy website creation, alleging that the defendant’s template-based design software infringes a patent related to the use of graphic design templates (5,535,320). Since late November 2012, CreateAds has filed over 25 suits against multiple defendants, including AT&T, Google, Hallmark, HP, Intuit, Staples, Vistaprint, Yahoo, and Zazzle. The patent-in-suit was assigned to Empire IP by Automated Reprographics Technologies in April 2012, and was later assigned to CreateAds by Empire IP in November of the same year.  RPX reviewed the patent as an open market opportunity (Frencken) in November 2010. 1/29, District of Delaware, 1:13cv00155.
