Lodsys Sues 10 More Companies over Website Functionality

Lodsys filed five separate lawsuits against a variety of companies, including CrocsDr Pepper Snapple Group, Edmac IndustriesGeneral MotorsImplix The Jones GroupOrchid CellmarkOriental TradingSaks, and Somerset Investments alleging that the defendants’ websites which utilize live interactive chat and feedback technology infringe two patents related to web-based transactions and a customer-based product design module (7,620,565 and 7,222,078). Since July 2010, Lodsys, along with related plaintiff entity Webvention, has sued more than 150 companies over basic website functionality.  After what seemed like a wind-down of patent infringement activity  by the company in May 2012, Lodsys launched new campaigns against a variety of website developers and operators, including  Nuance Communications (with SanDisk) in December 2012, and a recent string of suits on January 14, 2013, against HSN, HP, and Lexmark.
