Acacia’s Unified Messaging Solutions Sues BancorpSouth

Unified Messaging Solutions (UMS), a subsidiary of Acacia Research, filed suit against BancorpSouth alleging that the defendants’ web based communication services infringe five patents related to web-based messaging systems (6,857,074; 7,836,141; 7,895,306; 7,895,313; and 7,934.148).  UMS has filed over 100 prior suits since March 2011 against a multitude of defendants including American Express, Ameriprise, AT&T, Capital One, Charles Schwab, eBay, Facebook, Google, Morgan Stanley, Northwestern Mutual Life, Sprint, Nextel, Time Warner, Travelocity, Twitter, Vanguard, Verizon, Wells Fargo and Yahoo. UMS is the exclusive licensee of the patents-in-suit, which originated with J2 Global Communications/NetOffice Solutions and were assigned to Advanced Messaging Technologies in May 2010.  RPX acquired the rights to the UMS portfolio as part of the Acacia Bundle deal completed in September 2012.  1/22, Northern District of Mississippi, assigned to David A.
