Trustees of Boston University Sues Three More LED Lighting Companies

The Trustees of Boston University filed two separate suits against Epistar, LEDLight.com, and Lite-On alleging that the defendants’ gallium nitride thin film semiconductor devices, including LED-related products, infringe a patent related to gallium nitride semiconductor materials used in LED’s. The Trustees of Boston University have filed four prior suits since May 2001 against AXTEverlightNichia, and Seoul Semiconductor Company.  The named inventor on the patent-in-suit is Dr. Theodore D. Moustakasm Ph.D., a professor of electrical and computer engineering at Boston University, which owns the patent-in-suit by assignment.  This patent was also previously litigated by Bridgelux against Cree Lighting.  12/14, District of Massachusetts, assigned to F.
