December 6, 2012

Eclipse IP filed suit against Volkswagen alleging that Volkswagen’s vehicle navigation systems infringe two patents related to notification systems that analyze traffic flow data and alert a driver to future predicaments along a travel path.  Eclipse IP has filed more than 20 suits since May 2011 against over 20 defendants including other automotive companies such as Aston Martin, Honda, Nissan and Volvo. The patents-in-suit were assigned by the inventor, Scott A. Hortstemeyer, to Martin Kelly Jones of ArrivalStar before being assigned to Eclipse IP in January 2011.  Scott A. Horstemeyer is reportedly a partner/attorney at the IP law firm, Thomas Kayden Horstemeyer & Risley LLP.  11/28, Central District of California, assigned to Judge Philip S. Gutierrez and referred to Magistrate Judge Sheri Pym, 5:2012cv02087.
