NovelPoint Tracking Expands Campaign against Tablet and Handset Defendants
NovelPoint Tracking filed ten separate suits against Acer, Alcatel-Lucent, Coolpad Technologies, Dell, Huawei, Kyocera, Lenovo, LG, Samsung and Sony Ericsson alleging that the defendants’ smartphones and tablets infringe a patent related to GPS tracking, vehicle tracking, collision notification, and voice communication. NovelPoint Tracking has filed six prior suits since April 2012 against 15 defendants, primarily GPS technology providers. Last month, the campaign focus shifted to mobile device companies. The patent-in-suit was assigned to NovelPoint Tracking by inventor Wayne Evans in January 2012. RPX reviewed the patent-in-suit as part of an open market opportunity (Evans GPS) in July 2010. 12/2, Eastern District of Texas, 2:2012cv00741; 2:2012cv00742; 2:2012cv00743; 2:2012cv00744; 12/3, Eastern District of Texas, 2:2012cv00746, 2:2012cv00747, 2:2012cv00748; 12/4, Eastern District of Texas, 2:2012cv00753, 2:2012cv00756, 2:2012cv00757.
