Qualcomm Customers Targeted in Latest Suit by WRF

December 4, 2012

Washington Research Foundation (WRF), an independent private foundation that provides patent licensing and enforcement for the University of Washington, filed suit against Apple, D-Link, HP, Logitech, Microsoft, Parrot and Samsung alleging that the defendants’  use of Wi-Fi  chipsets supplied by Qualcomm infringe six patents related to radio frequency receiver technology using a low intermediate frequency (Bluetooth technology).  In December 2011, WRF filed two separate suits against Samsung and Sharp for the use of chipsets supplied by NXP alleging infringement of four patents, one of which is included in the current case. Those suits were dismissed in February 2012 and May 2012 respectively after WRF entered a license agreement with NXP. 11/30, Western District of Washington, 2:2012cv02092.
