Affinity Labs of Texas Sues Three Android Phone Makers

November 22, 2012

Affinity Labs of Texas filed suit against HTCLG, and Samsung, alleging that the defendants’ smartphones, tablets, and portable music players infringe four patents related to communicating selected information to an electronic device, integrating a portable media device into an automobile sound system, and content delivery.  Affinity Labs of Texas has filed eight prior suits against over 20 defendants between 2008 and August 2011 a number of which targeted auto makers for in-vehicle music systems. In November, 2010 a jury awarded Affinity Labs a total of $10 million in damages from defendants Hyundai, Volkswagen and Kia.  According to the complaint filed against HTC, LG, and Samsung, the defendants are properly joined because their products all use the Android operating system.  Russel White is the co-founder of Affinity Labs as well as a named inventor on the patents-in-suit.  11/20, Eastern District of Texas, no judge yet assigned, 1:2012cv00557.
