Empire IP’s Rotatable Technologies Targets Android Device Makers in New Suit
Rotatable Technologies, a plaintiff entity controlled by Empire IP, filed suit against Coby, HTC, LG, Lenovo, Pandigital, ViewSonic, and Vizio, alleging that the defendants’ smartphones and tablets infringe a patent related to rotating content on a display. The complaint alleges that joinder of the seven defendants is proper in the case because, “each Defendant’s infringing products includes, complies with, and/or utilizes the android (sic) operating system, the practice of which by each Defendant necessarily results in infringement of the patent-in-suit.” Rotatable Technologies has asserted the patent-in-suit against more than 20 defendants since May. The patent-in-suit was assigned by the inventor to Empire IP in January 2012. 11/13, Eastern District of Texas, no judge yet assigned, 2:2012cv00718.
