Inventor Initiates Mobile Payment Suits Three Years after Trying to Sell Patent

October 25, 2012

Inventor Peter Sprogis filed two separate suits against Google and JVL Ventures (the entity formed in 2010 by AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon to operate the ISIS mobile payment network), alleging that the defendants’ near-field communication based mobile payment systems infringe a patent related to the use of RFID tags as coupons.  These are the first two patent infringement suits initiated by Peter Sprogis.  Sprogis is the chairman and co-founder of MoLo Rewards, a UK mobile coupon provider. RPX reviewed the patent-in-suit as an open market opportunity (Sprogis) in February 2009.  10/23, District of Delaware, no judge yet assigned, 1:2012cv01351; 1:2012cv01352.
