Boston University Trustees Sue Everlight Electronics and Seoul Semiconductor with Patent from Professor

October 18, 2012

The Trustees of Boston University filed two separate suits against Everlight Electronics and Seoul Semiconductor Company, alleging that the defendants’ gallium nitride thin film semiconductor devices, including LED related products, infringe a patent related to highly insulating monocrystalline gallium nitride thin films.  The Trustees of Boston University have filed one prior suit against AXT and Cree Lighting in June 2003.  The named inventor on the patent-in-suit is Dr. Theodore D. Moustakasm Ph.D., a professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Boston University, which owns the patent-in-suit by assignment.  This patent was also previously litigated by Bridgelux against Cree Lighting.  10/17, District of Massachusetts, no judge yet assigned, 1:2012cv11935, 1:2012cv11938.
