Commonwealth Research Targets Optical Transceiver Products in New Suits

October 16, 2012

Commonwealth Research Group (CRG) [NPE] filed two separate suits against B&B Electronics Manufacturing Company, IMC Networks, and PD-LD, alleging that the defendants’ transceiver products infringe a patent related to an optoelectronic module for bidirectional optical data transmission.  CRG has filed two prior suits since March 2010 against Altera, Conexant, Cyress, Energy Micro, Epson, Lattice, Maxim, Microchip, Mindspeed, Silicon Labs, Triad, ZiiLABS, and ZiLOG. In September 2011, ARM filed a complaint for declaratory judgment against CRG. The patent-in-suit originated with Siemens and was assigned to Infineon Technologies in March 1999.  According to the complaint, CRG is the exclusive and current owner of the patent-in-suit; however, this has not been recorded with the USPTO.  10/12, District of New Jersey, assigned to Judge Michael A. Shipp and referred to Magistrate Judge Tonianne J. Bongiovanni, 3:2012cv06472; 10/15, Northern District of Illinois, no judge yet assigned, 1:2012cv08274.
