New Litigation Campaign Linked to Wi-LAN Targets Online Gaming with Patent Acquired on the Open Market

Treehouse Avatar Technologies filed suit against Turbine, (maker of Dungeons and Dragons Online) alleging that Turbine’s online games infringe a patent related to avatar-based gaming.  This is the first patent infringement suit initiated by Treehouse Avatar Technologies, which shares its principal place of business with Wi-LAN. RPX reviewed the patent-in-suit as part of an open market opportunity (Treehouse) in June 2011.  The patent-in-suit originated with Treehouse Solutions and was assigned to Treehouse Avatar Technologies in September 2011.  According to ZoomInfo, the correspondent listed on the assignment to the plaintiff, Grahame Plaunt, is a patent administrator at Wi-LAN.  10/9, District of Delaware, no judge yet assigned, 1:2012cv01307.
