VMware’s Zimbra Among E-Contact’s Latest Email Targets

E-Contact Technologies filed four separate suits against Add2Net, Deluxe Corporation, Hosting Services, LeaseWeb USA, Liquid Web, Media Temple, and  Network Solutions, SoftLayer Technologies, Verio, Web.com Group, Webfusion Internet Solutions, and VMware’s Zimbra , alleging that the defendants’ email and Web-based mail products infringe a patent related to a personal computer diary for webmail products.  E-Contact Technologies (an Empire IP plaintiff entity) has filed over 10 prior suits since September 2011 against over 50 defendants.  The patent-in-suit was assigned by inventor Robert Blanford to E-Contact Technologies in August 2011.  The named correspondent on the assignment is Daniel Mitry, one of the attorneys behind Empire IP.  Empire IP is a programmatic patent enforcement entity, and its various plaintiff entities have filed more than 50 patents suits against over 300 defendants since March 2011.   10/5, Eastern District of Texas, no judge yet assigned, 1:2012cv00482; 1:2012cv00484; 1:2012cv00485; 1:2012cv00486.
