British Telecom Patents Asserted by New Entity Linked to IPNav

GlobeTecTrust filed 16 separate suits against AT&T, Cablevision, Charter, Consolidated Communications Holdings, Cox, Earthlink, FairPoint Communications, Level 3 Communications, Lumos Networks, Mediacom, Time Warner Cable, Verizon, and Windstream, alleging that the defendants’ Internet networks infringe one to four patents (depending on the defendant) related communications networking.  These are the first patent infringement suits initiated by GlobeTecTrust which is the exclusive licensee of the patents-in-suit.  The patents-in-suit originated with British Telecommunications and were assigned to PatentPortfolio 2 S.A.R.L in July 2011.  According to a press release from August 2011, PatentPortfolio 2 S.A.R.L. acquired a portfolio of 400 patent assets from BT Group PLC and retained IP Navigation (IPNav) Group (Europe) as its strategic patent advisor.  PatentPortfolio 2 S.A.R.L. offered a covenant not to sue to their portfolio of over 60 patents through the ICAP Patent Brokerage at the Fall 2011 CNS auction.  10/1, District of Delaware, no judge yet assigned, 1:2012cv01234; 1:2012cv01235; 1:2012cv01236; 1:2012cv01238; 1:2012cvd01239; 1:2012cv01241; 1:2012cv01242; 1:2012cv01243; 1:2012cv01244; 1:2012cv01245; 1:2012cv01246; 1:2012cv01247; 1:2012cv01248; 1:2012cv01249; 1:2012cv01250; 1:2012cv01251.
