Metasearch Systems Sues Five More Online Travel Sites

Metasearch Systems [NPE] filed five separate suits against American Express, Bookit.com, Kayak, TravelZoo, and Yahoo, alleging that the defendants’ websites that include trip-planning metasearch services infringe six patents related to metasearch results and display of associated ads/product listings.  Metasearch Systems filed four prior suits on September 21, 2012 against Expedia, Hotels.com, Hotwire, Orbitz, Priceline.com, and Travelocity.com.  Harvey Lunenfeld, the named inventor on the patents-in-suit, is also President and CEO of Metasearch Systems.  According to the complaints, Metasearch Systems is the exclusive licensee of 14 patents, as well as pending applications and foreign patents.  No assignment information regarding the patents-in-suit has been recorded at the USPTO.  RPX reviewed three of the in-suit-patents as part of an open market opportunity (Lunenfeld) in November 2010.  (The other three in-suit-patents issued subsequent to RPX’s review.)  9/28, District of Delaware, no judge yet assigned, 1:2012cv01222; 1:2012cv01223; 1:2012cv01224; 1:2012cv01225; 1:2012cv01226.
