New NPE Sues Amazon and Facebook

September 10, 2012

B.E. Technology [NPE] filed two separate suits involving different patents related to targeted advertising against Amazon and Facebook. B.E. Technology alleges that Amazon’s eReaders and tablets infringe a patent related to a portable network organization system and targeted advertising.  The plaintiff also alleged that Facebook’s method of providing demographically targeted advertising infringes a patent related to providing an automatically upgradeable software application that includes targeted advertising based on demographics and user interaction with a computer.  These are the first patent infringement suits initiated by B.E. Technology.  Martin David Hoyle is the named inventor on both of the patents-in-suit, which he assigned to B.E. Technology in January 2001.  9/7, Western District of Tennessee, no judge yet assigned, 2:2012cv02767; 2:2012cv02769.
