August 15, 2012

Parallel Iron [NPE] filed suit against Netflix, alleging that Netflix’s products implementing the Hadoop distributed file system infringe three patents related to storing data across multiple servers.  (Hadoop is an open source distributed cache file system.)  Parallel Iron (controlled by IP Navigation) has filed over 15 prior suits since January 2011 against over 15 defendants, including Adobe, Adknowledge, Amazon, AOL, BlueArc, EMC, Facebook, Groupon, Hitachi, Hulu, IBM, LinkedIn, LSI, Morgan Stanley, NetApp, Oracle, Samsung, and Twitter.  The patents-in-suit were previously owned by Ring Technology [NPE] before being assigned to Parallel Iron in March 2010.  Netflix was named as a defendant in another IP Nav suit (Data Carriers) in July. 8/13, District of Delaware, no judge yet assigned, 1:2012cv01035.
