August 13, 2012 – The Electronic Transactions Association announced the formation of the Mobile Payments Committee, a consortium of financial services, mobile network operators, and mobile payment companies including American Express, AT&T, Capital One, Discover, Google, Isis, MasterCard, PayPal, Sprint, T-Mobile, VeriFone, Verizon, Visa, and Wells Fargo. The Committee’s primary goals are reportedly to build relationships with merchants, engage in lobbying activities with legislators and regulators, and educate merchants and consumers about the potential of mobile payments.
