EMG Sues MasterCard and Visa over HTML Content

EMG Technology filed two separate suits against MasterCard and Visa, alleging that the defendants’ websites infringe a patent related to the conversion of HTML content to XML. EMG has filed nine prior suits since November 2008 against over 35 defendants including Apple, Barnes & Noble, Comcast, Dell, Microsoft, Priceline.com, and Time Warner. Elliot Gottfurcht is one of the named inventors on the patent-in-suit, which was assigned to EMG in November 2008. Gottfurcht is also a managing member of EMG. According to an EMG press release, the company has licensed its portfolio to “40 Fortune 200 Companies that use EMG’s technology to display and navigate their mobile sites on smart phones and tablets.” 7/27, Eastern District of Texas, no judge yet assigned, 6:2012cv00479; 6:2012cv00480.
