Sony Files for DJ against Acacia Subsidiary Digitech Image Technologies

July 26, 2012

Sony Electronics filed a complaint for declaratory judgment against Digitech Image Technologies [NPE], a subsidiary of Acacia Research, seeking declarations of non-infringement and invalidity of the same patent-in-suit that Digitech Image previously included in a patent infringement suit against Sony and others.  Digitech Image previously filed one suit for patent infringement on July 16, 2012 against AgfaPhoto, B&H Foto & Electronics, Best Buy, Buy.com, CDW, Canon, Casio, Fujifilm, GE, General Imaging Company, Hasselblad, Leaf Imaging, Leica Camera, Mamiya Digital Imaging, Micro Electronics, Newegg, Nikon, Olympus, Overstock.com, Panasonic, Pentax Ricoh, Ricoh, Sakar International, Sigma Corporation, Sony, and Target. In the suit filed by Digitech Image, Sony’s alpha series and Cyber-shot series digital cameras were identified as accused products infringing the patent-in-suit.  The patent-in-suit was originally issued to Polaroid in October 2000 and was assigned to Mitcham Global Investments (along with other patents from bankrupt Polaroid) in January 2010.  According to the USPTO assignment database, Mitcham assigned five US patents (including the in-suit patent) to Digitech Image Technologies in May 2012. 7/24, District of Delaware, no judge yet assigned, 1:2012cv00980.
