Boadin Sues Same Content Sites over New Patents

July 12, 2012

Boadin Technology [NPE] filed six separate suits against Bloomberg, CNBC, Dow Jones & Company, Fox News Network, Gannett Co., MarketWatch, and the New York Times, alleging that the defendants’ websites infringe three patents (depending on the defendant) related to software for instantaneous symbol lookup on websites.  Two of the patents-in-suit were issued to Aloft Media and one was assigned to Boadin in November 2011.  The third patent-in-suit was issued to Boadin Technology in May 2011.  According to the complaints, Boadin is the owner of all three patents-in-suit.  The connection between Boadin and Aloft is currently unknown.  Boadin filed one prior suit against the same seven defendants over two different instantaneous symbol lookup patents in September 2011.  Boadin offered a perpetual covenant not to sue for its full patent portfolio at the September 2011 ICAP Patent Brokerage auction.  7/10, District of Delaware, no judge yet assigned, 1:2011cv00862, 1:2011cv00863, 1:2011cv00864, 1:2011cv00865, 1:2011cv00866 and 1:2011cv00867.
