Acacia’s Unified Messaging Solutions Files Suit against ShawGuides, Home Away, and Multiply

Unified Messaging Solutions (UMS) [NPE] filed three separate suits against Home Away, Multiply, and ShawGuides, alleging that the defendants’ webmail services infringe five patents related to web-based messaging systems.  UMS has filed over 20 prior suits since March 2011 against over 40 defendants including American Express, AT&T, Bank of New York Mellon, eBay, Facebook, Google, Morgan Stanley, RIM, Sprint Nextel, T-Mobile, Time Warner, Travelocity, Twitter, Vanguard, Verizon, Walgreen, and Yahoo.  UMS, a subsidiary of Acacia Research, is the exclusive licensee of the patents-in-suit, which originated with J2 Global Communications/NetOffice Solutions and were assigned to Advanced Messaging Technologies in May 2010.  6/22, Southern District of Florida, assigned to Judge Ursula Ungaro, 1:2012cv22326; assigned to Senior Judge Kenneth L. Ryskamp and referred to Magistrate Judge James M. Hopkins, 9:2012cv80670; Western District of Texas, no judge yet assigned, 1:2012cv00553.
