New NPE Sues Automotive Companies

June 5, 2012

Secor View Technologies [NPE] filed three separate suits against BMW, Jaguar, Nissan, and Rolls-Royce, alleging that the defendants’ automobiles with certain rear viewing arrangements infringe a patent related to video cameras for rearward viewing that are positioned on the left and right sides as well as directly ahead of the driver in an automobile.  These are the first patent infringement suits initiated by Secor View Technologies.  The patent-in-suit was assigned by inventor James Secor to Empire IP before being assigned to Secor View Technologies in May 2012.  Empire IP’s website says that it was founded by “patent attorneys who formerly worked in prestigious New York City law firms representing some of the world’s largest corporations.”  Empire IP is behind three other NPE campaigns in 2012: PanoMap, PotterVoice, and Rotatable Technologies.  6/1, District of New Jersey, Judge Faith S. Hochberg, 2:2012cv03306; 2:2012cv03308; 2:2012cv03310.
