Acacia’s Smartphone Technologies Sues ZTE with Palm Patents

SmartPhone Technologies [NPE], a subsidiary of Acacia Research, filed suit against ZTE, alleging that the defendant’s computerized communication devices infringe five patents related to various mobile device technologies.  SmartPhone Technologies has filed nine suits since March 2010 against AT&TAppleDell, ExedeaHuawei, HTCInsight EnterprisesKyoceraLGMotorolaNokiaPantechRIMSamsungSanyoSony Ericsson, and T-Mobile.  Huawei and Futurewei Technologies filed an action for declaratory judgment against Access Co, Acacia Research, and SmartPhone Technologies in April 2012.  According to the complaint, SmartPhone is the exclusive licensee of the patents-in-suit, four of which originated with Palm.  In January 2012, Acacia announced that SmartPhone entered into a license agreement with Amazon.  5/24, Eastern District of Texas, no judge yet assigned, 6:2012cv00350.
