New NPE Sues Companies over Device Connectors

Ideative Product Ventures [NPE] filed seven separate suits against Accell, Amazon, AudioVox, DU International, Jasco Products, Sears, and Targus, alleging that the defendants’ act of selling digital fiber optic audio cables, HDMI cables and connectors, swivel adapters, and USB adapters infringe one or two patents (depending on the defendant) that relate to connectors and adapters with multiple degrees of freedom.  These are the first patent infringement suits filed by Ideative.  Tavis Schriefer is the named inventor on the patents-in-suit, is the which were assigned to Ideative in July 2003.  Schriefer’s LinkedIn profile indicates that he is the CEO and president of Ideative Product Ventures.  According to the company’s website, Ideative was founded in 2002 and claims to “aggressively obtain and defend intellectual property property protection for our own products.”  5/8, Eastern District of Texas, no judge yet assigned, 4:2012cv00272; 4:2012cv00273; 4:2012cv00274; 4:2012cv00275; 4:2012cv00276; 4:2012cv00277; 4:2012cv00278.
