Hunts Point Ventures (HPV) [NPE] filed suit against RIM. The complaint is currently unavailable. HPV has filed three prior suits since May 2011 against digEcor, Epson, and Tonium. In those cases, Hunts point alleged that the defendants’ portable media players infringed a patent related to transferring data in portable audio devices. Mark Phillips and Eric Paul Gibbs are the named inventors on the patent-in-suit in those two cases, which originated with Interactive Objects (later renamed FullPlay) and was assigned to Hunts Point in January 2011. FullPlay, a developer of a multimedia kiosk, filed for bankruptcy in 2003. Mark Phillips was previously the CTO of FullPlay. In 2009, Phillips was charged with two counts of wire fraud. In July 2011, he was sentenced to 48 months in prison. A Google webpage for Phillips says he “works at” Hunts Point Ventures. 4/30, Western District of Wisconsin, no judge yet assigned, 3:2012cv00307.
