Mobile Company Plaintiff Grants Exclusive License to Acacia

April 25, 2012 – Mobile communications company TeleCommunication Systems (TCS) announced that it has granted an exclusive license to the company’s patents to a subsidiary of Acacia Research. In its 10-K filed on March 7, 2012, TCS reported that it holds more than 200 issued patents relating to wireless text messaging, inter-carrier messaging, number portability, GPS ephemeris data, emergency public safety data routing, and electronic commerce.  In the press release, Paul Ryan (CEO of Acacia Research) stated, “This alliance helps TCS realize fair value from their research and development investment in these litigation-tested patents while supporting future R&D by patent holders for the benefit of their customers.”  Telecommunication Systems has filed several patent suits since 2006 against defendants including AT&T, RIM, and Sybase and most recently, against TracBeam.
