October 1, 2012

j2 Global and Advanced Messaging Technologies (AMT) [NPE] filed suit against Integrated Global Concepts (IGC), alleging that IGC’s “MaxEmail” services infringe four patents related to internet fax.  j2 has filed over 20 prior suits since 2004, six of which included AMT as a co-plaintiff.  j2 is the owner of the ’638, ’688, and ’132 patents while AMT is the owner of the ’066 patent.  All of the patents-in-suit have received reexamination certificates.  The ’688 and ’638 patents originated with JFax Communications and were assigned to j2 in November 2000.  The ’066 patent originated with NetOffice and was assigned to j2 in August 2004 before being assigned to AMT in May 2010.  There is no assignment history for the ’132 patent recorded at the USPTO.  4/20, Central District of California, Judge Mariana R. Pfaelzer, 2:2012cv03439.
