New Acacia Subsidiary Sues Adobe, Autodesk, and Three Others
- April 13, 2012
Computer Software Protection (CSP) [NPE], a subsidiary of Acacia Research, filed five separate suits against Adobe, Autodesk, Mathworks, Nuance Communications, and Wolfram Research, alleging that the defendants’ software infringes a patent related to using registration keys to control the distribution of software under a license agreement. These are the first patent infringement suits initiated by CSP. According to the complaint, CSP is the exclusive licensee of the patent-in-suit, which originated with Starnet Communications. RPX reviewed the patent as a litigation opportunity under “Starnet Communications” in December 2011. 4/10, District of Delaware, no judge yet assigned, 1:2012cv00451; 1:2012cv00452; 1:2012cv00453; 1:2012cv00454; 1:2012cv00455.
