New NPE Controlled by Dan Perez Sues Microsoft over Skype

Elia Data of Texas [NPE] filed suit against Microsoft, alleging that Microsoft’s Skype platform infringes a patent related to providing secure transport of secure packets between a first and second node. This is the first patent infringement suit initiated by Elia Data. According to the complaint, Daniel Perez is the president of Elia Data. Perez has been linked to several past NPE litigation campaigns. The patent-in-suit was assigned to Elia Data by inventor Sandy Kronenberg in January 2012. RPX reviewed the patent as open market opportunity “Kronenberg” in September 2011.
