Acacia’s Smartphone Technologies Sues Futurewei and Huawei with Palm Patents

SmartPhone Technologies [NPE], a subsidiary of Acacia Research, filed suit against Futurewei and Huawei, alleging that the defendants’ computerized communication devices infringe five patents related to various mobile device technologies.  SmartPhone Technologies has filed six prior suits since March 2010 against AT&T, Apple, Dell, Exedea, HTC, Insight Enterprises, Kyocera, LG, Motorola, Nokia, Pantech, RIM, Samsung, Sanyo, Sony Ericsson, and T-Mobile.  According to the complaint, SmartPhone is the exclusive licensee of the patents-in-suit, four of which originated with Palm.  In January 2012, Acacia announced that SmartPhone entered into a license agreement with Amazon.  4/3, Eastern District of Texas, no judge yet assigned, 6:2012cv00245.
