New Acacia Subsidiary Sues Cisco with Patents from Philips

April 4, 2012

Video Streaming Solutions (VSS) [NPE], a subsidiary of Acacia Research, filed suit against Cisco, alleging that Cisco’s encoders, “Visual Quality Experience” products, and “EnergyWise” network products infringe eight patents related to increasing the efficiency of video streaming devices.  This is the first patent infringement suit filed by VSS.  The patents-in-suit originated with Philips before being assigned to IPG Electronics 503 in transactions between January 2009 and September 2011. RPX reviewed a number of the patents-in-suit as part of the Philips Coller open market portfolio in 2010.  3/30, District of Delaware, no judge yet assigned, 1:2012cv00401.
