New NPE Unifi Scientific Batteries Sues Amazon, Barnes & Noble, HTC, Nokia, RIM, Samsung, and Sony over Battery Chips Supplied by Texas Instruments

Unifi Scientific Batteries (USB) [NPE] filed four separate suits against Amazon, Barnes & Noble, HTC, Nokia, RIM, Samsung, Sony, and Texas Instruments (TI), alleging that the defendants’ mobile phones and tablets that incorporate TI’s battery charging chips infringe a patent related to battery chargers. These are the first four patent infringement suits initiated by USB. The patent-in-suit originated with Shakti Systems and was assigned to American Patent and Mainstream Scientific before being assigned to USB in October 2011. 3/30, Eastern District of Texas, Judge Leonard Davis, 6:2012cv00221; 6:2012cv00223; 6:2012cv00224; 6:2012cv00225.
