South African Inventor Targets Apple over iTunes

Benjamin Grobler [INV] filed suit against Apple, alleging that Apple’s iTunes system infringes a patent related to a data vending system.  This is the first patent infringement suit initiated by Grobler.  The patent-in-suit was issued to Grobler, a citizen of South Africa, in September 2004.  Grobler is also the named inventor on pending US application numbers 20090271318 and 20100048166.  The claims of the patent-in-suit, 6,799,084 contain multiple limitations including demographic informaton about the user, royalties to be paid by the user, and ownership history by a “data carrier”. 3/27, Northern District of California, 3:2012cv01534.
