Mobile Enhancement Solutions (MES) [NPE] filed three separate suits against Apple, AT&T, HTC, Motorola Mobility, Sprint, Sprint Nextel, and Verizon, alleging that the defendants’ mobile phones and tablets infringe four to six patents related to wireless communications, location services, and search on mobile devices.  These are the first patent infringement suits initiated by MES.  The patents-in-suit originated with Philips Electronics and were assigned to IPG Electronics 503 between January and April 2009.  According to the complaint, MES is the assignee of the patents-in-suit and has principal places of business in Newport Beach, CA and Frisco, TX, the locations of Acacia Research subsidiaries. RPX reviewed the patents-in-suit in December 2009 as part of the open market Philips Coller portfolio.  3/15, Northern District of Texas, 3:2012cv00794; 3:2012cv00795; 3:2012cv00797.
